100 Meditations

100 Meditations

What is the book about?

This is a real book for real people. It's nonfiction. In essence, this book contains one hundred meditations about life. I've attempted to keep them short, to the point, and easy to understand. They cover all aspects of life: you name it, and you'll find it-or something close to it-in this book. The meditations are the fruit of my total life experience: my education, reading, attending seminars, observations I've made and documented, my vocation in counseling, leading, speaking, writing, consulting-and, of course, real life situations. Most of what I write in this book is grounded in what I would call transcendent truths: things that most people know to be true. I don't think you are going to find anything in this book that will shock you in terms of its innovation. All the illustrations I use in this book are taken from real life-these events actually occurred. After all, I wanted to write a real book for real people. Click here  to read a sample meditation. Why?

I wrote this book because I wanted to! Helping people was, is, and will continue to be a passion of mine. Fulfilling that passion has been primary in writing this book. I also wrote this book because I believe it's better to give than to receive. There is tremendous blessing in giving. This book is one, and hopefully not the last, of my gifts to humanity. I also wrote this book because I am indebted to you. Some of you will probably think I'm nuts, but that's the way I feel. When I buy something on my credit card and receive the bill in the mail, I know I need to pay that debt. In a lot of ways, I feel like I have borrowed from society. In my opinion, I have been in a classroom since I was conscious of the concept of learning. I've learned something from everyone I've known, as well as from the writings, teachings, and life experiences of many people I've never met. It is time to give back. In much the same way, I also wrote this book because I am grateful. This book is my way of saying "thank you" to the world. When I consider who I am, where I am, and all that I have experienced, I'm filled with thankfulness. Lastly, I wrote this book because I believe most people have the freedom and ability to change. I truly believe that there are things in this book that, if properly understood and applied, can help people to make positive contributions to the world and obtain a higher quality of life.

Who is this book for?

I think anyone can profit from this book: rich or poor, young or old, college educated or not. It's probably not politically correct to say this, but I really think this book is for the common person. It is for everyone. Some people will probably find it too simplistic, and that's fine. I am writing to the masses, in hopes that just about anyone can pick this book up and read a meditation or two that will help. This book is also for the underdog. Most of us cannot afford the time or money to meet with professional counselors and read endless books on self-help. Therefore, this book is for the person who needs some advice, but in a distilled form. Likewise, I think this book has something for those who are going somewhere with their lives, as well as for those who are not satisfied with where they currently are.

How can this book help?

Books are great, but people are better. Well, usually. What I mean is this: as helpful as books are, talking to a person is even more beneficial. I would like to see this book help people improve their quality of life and their relationships with others. I don't want anyone to read this book in hopes that it will cure the metaphoric "cancer" of their life. That is an unreasonable expectation of a book, in my opinion. As much as I want to see your specific problems solved, this book is not going to do that in and of itself. This book is meant to come alongside you and make you think. It's meant to challenge you and, most of all, help you to make the changes you may need to make. Some of you may read the meditations in this book and not need anything more. But some of you may read and be moved to see a therapist or doctor, or open up to a friend, spouse, or relative. This book is not a replacement for human responsibility or relationships. It's meant to enable and empower people to take charge of their lives and better their relationships.
